3RD WEEK OF JULY 2010 - CAPE BRETON

The "carrying place" at St. Peter's has been converted into a lock system. It is the only way to get into the South end of the Bra D'Or Lakes.



The Bra D'Or Lakes:



There are significant gysum deposits in the area which are actively mined.



The Great Bra D'Or Channel --- It is one of two of the only exits to the sea and the only one suitable for a vessel of our size.

Suspension is the key word here. This is what it looks like from below.



Odd stuff:



The Northeastern shore of Cape Breton:





Said to be an active transient marina in the guide book. Like some many businesses along the coast, it did not survive and is nothing more than an idle wharf.
