It is time to turn our bow westward along the Southwest coast of Newfoundland. It turned out to be a bright, sunny day as we left Grand Bank behind.

The coast becomes increasingly mountainous as we sail west.

We plan to include some probing visits into the fjord coast.

Anxious to explore a fjord, we passed Harbour Breton, and sailed up to the top of the Northeast Arm.

A beached wreck was seen in a cove to starboard.

The fjord:

Fjords are good places for fish farms since the tidal currents carry the waste products away.

The winds usually tend to funnel up and down the fjords at much greater velocities than on the outside. In this case they were in our favor.

There is a cut somewhere up there. When we passed through there were only a few feet of deep water on each side of our boat.

Waterfalls can be seen everywhere.

Balden's Cove is a nearly landlocked bay. The photo looks back the way we came.

Looking inland. Only a few houses dot the immediate shore.
