Mother Nature is steadily increasing the number and intensity of tropical depressions that she is sending our way. Now we are being threatened by hurricanes. So we decided to move along quickly. We chose to do an overnight passage to Halifax, Nova Scotia. Here you can see other sailboats also heading southwest. Note the helicopter perched next to the lighthouse. It's crew is servicing the lighthouse.

Our mooring at the Armdale Yacht Club was just beyond the starting line for the sailboat races. As they jockeyed their way through the mooring field I reassured Sharon, "Don't worry they know what they are doing". This was said as several boats were headed straight for the side of our boat.

We decided to hike across the city to see the sights. This is some street art seen along the way.

We did a quick step through the city in order to reach the Citadel Fort in time for the firing of the noon gun. The Citadel is a beautifully restored fort that was built to guard Halifax from outside intruders. It is also a museum.

The fort was staffed by people in period costume. The soldiers reenacted activities of daily living and oriented visitors to their lifestyle. The fort had been staffed by British infantry, British grenadiers, and Scottish highlanders. In the past the soldiers were sponsored by wealthy individuals and consequently the soldiers wore the uniforms that their sponsor chose. In the case of the Scottish Highlanders they wore the McKenzie Clan plaid.

These guns overlooked the harbor of Halifax.

After spending a large part of the day exploring the Citadel, we decided to move on to the downtown and waterfront of Halifax. This building shows evidence of the many changes that occurred over time.

The Halifax harbour had a wide assortment of vessels.

This is the view of the back side of Halifax from the deck of the Armdale Yacht Club.

We have frequently seen Bald Eagles during this summers trip. As you can see they are not deterred by civilization.
