We returned to Ramea, which is located on a group of islands just off the southwest Newfoundland coast. We arrived in time to enjoy the "Rock Island Music Festival". The place was bustling. The ferry had even adjusted its schedule to compensate for the arrival of so many people from away. The old timers were not hanging out at the wharf and everyone seemed to have something to do.

Kerry Deare had arrived the day before.

Fish were being dried on the clothes lines.

The only creatures that seemed uninterested in festivities were the young birds of this year.

If you dried fish on a table outside you had be make sure the birds didn't carry it off.

This is a view of the coast from the island. You can make out the entrance of a fjord in the distance.

The harbor of Ramea:

This pond serves as the town's fresh water supply.

The festival featured a series of local bands who primarily played genuine Newfoundland music.

"Para M" had been away for a spell and we had tied "Evergreen" in her space at the wharf. So, when "Para M" returned for the festival she just rafted along side her cousin. This method of tying to other boats is a common occurence in Newfoundland.

These are fishing skiffs awaiting another day of the "food fishery". Now that the Cod stocks have been nearly wiped out by the draggers, there are only two two week seasons when each person is allowed to catch five fish a day for their own food stock.

The captain of Kerry Deare went out for an early morning dinghy ride around the islands. The ferry is at her wharf, waiting for the activities of the day to start.

When the festival was over the fishermen returned to their docks.
